ParkMan Kicked 2017 off with Expansion in Three Countries

Is it too early in the year for an update? We think not, because so much has already happened. As the beginning of 2017 has rolled around, the first launches are already behind us and that’s something we’d like to tell a little bit more about. We’re excited to see ParkMan users in more and more places.

A brand new country: Italy

The biggest news of the year (so far!) is that we are now operating in a completely new market: in January, we launched ParkMan in Italy! As per usual, launch is advancing city by city and with a little bit of patience, our app will soon be available in your hometown or that city you’re going to for a weekend getaway.

This is new territory for us, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to now be able to help our friends in Italy to find and pay for parking as effortlessly as ever, just like in our other partner countries.  

Denmark has three new ParkMan cities

At the beginning of 2017, we’ve started operating in three new areas in Denmark: Svendborg, Silkeborg and Fredericia. The charming Svendborg is located on the Danish island of Funen (also known as the Capital of Southern Funen), and has been around since the 1800s. Silkeborg is located in Central Jutland and is famous for its lakes. Finally, Fredericia is a former medieval trade city, and is located in Southern Jutland. Fredericia also forms an important part of the Triangle Region together with the nearby cities of Kolding and Vejle (ParkMan now works in all three!).

All three new cities launched ParkMan in January in their municipality-owned parking areas. Anyone living in or visiting the cities is now able to use our parking app to look for a parking spot and pay for it without having to carry coins!

Two more Finnish cities have come onboard

In Finland, our newest cities to join in January are located in the Eastern part of the country. Some 30 km from the Russian border by Finland’s largest lake Saimaa, Lappeenranta has a rich history between two cultures. Mikkeli is situated a bit more west of the border, in the Etelä-Savo region and is actually a friendship town of the Danish city Vejle mentioned above.

Parking with ParkMan is now possible in municipality parking areas in both Lappeenranta and Mikkeli, and we couldn’t be more delighted to give the experience of effortless parking to those residing in either city. We already operate in a multitude of places in Finland, so our existing users are also happy that they can now park with the app also when visiting either of the cities.

Parking with ParkMan at the most interesting places in Helsinki

We are very excited to cater to even more people and places in the Finnish capital, as we have recently expanded to some of the most visited, interesting spots of the Helsinki metropolitan area. ParkMan can be now used at Kaapelitehdas, the No 1 culture venue for events and exhibitions, and at Hernesaaren Ranta and Löyly, both local and tourist favorites for relaxation, food and drinks by the sea. In addition, it’s possible to park with our app at the sports facilities at Merihaka and Liikuntamylly, as well as the hot startup hub Maria 0-1 in the heart of the city.

Both residents and visitors to the beautiful Nordic seaside city benefit from the new spots we now operate in!

More and more people want to park with an app

Mobile parking is a growing trend all over Europe, and why not: it’s easier, faster, and more cost-effective than fumbling with coins or driving around looking for a parking sign. Parking is notoriously a necessary pain of going places with a car, but removing unnecessary steps makes it much less so.

The benefits are indisputable, not just the usability that makes city residents happier, but also better traffic flow of busy city areas, more cost-effective parking management and decreasing pollution rates (an estimated third of city centre traffic still consists of cars looking for parking). So, whenever we say we want to “improve parking,” it’s a wide expression simply because the effects of a working digital solution truly are that wide – it makes a city function better overall.
